Aulus Postumius Albinus was a Roman statesman and served as consul with Marcus Antonius (the father of Mark Antony). While history has left Albinus relatively unknown his one mark in history, whether good or bad, was being the adoptive father of Brutus, one of the murderers of Julius Caesar in 44 BC. Brutus’ full name was Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus, of which the Albinus comes directly from the moneyer of this coin.
The Albinus family extended back to the 5th century BC when the name was originally Albus.
